Don’t Ignite The Fire. It Will Burn You.

Well, last time I talked about intrinsic aging what we can’t do anything about. But today I will talk about something what we call extrinsic aging.
Extrinsic aging is what we do by exposing ourselves to certain external factors. Let’s take a look at them:

  • Sun exposure: We all more or less expose ourselves to harsh Sun-ray. But Sun-rays contain UVA and UVB rays. And long term exposure to these rays can destroy collagen rapidly leaving your once soft glowing skin loose and dull.
  • Glycated sugar: A bad news for those having sweet tooth isn’t it? Well not particularly. Let’s see how. When we consume sugar and it goes into our bloodstream it binds with proteins like collagen, elastin and forms an advanced glycation end product which damages collagen. But does that mean cutting sugar from your diet will save you? Here’s the catch, any form of carbohydrate whether it’s rice or bread when goes into the body convert into sugar, so more carb means more sugar and more glycation and more collagen breakdown.
  • Dehydration: Water itself is about 60% of collagen’s weight. So you can easily understand what can happen to your poor collagen when you dehydrate yourself.
  • Smoking: Smoking kills, we all know it. But it kills your collagen as well. According to studies smokers develop wrinkles 5 time more than non smokers. It’s because smoking produce some enzymes which in turn kills collagen.

If you are overwhelmed thinking about getting old, don’t think just quit these bad habits and see the difference yourself. More to come till then, take care and live a healthy life.
